Previous Water Rescue Member(s) of the Month
October 2007
John Szczyglinski
John Szczyglinski is the October member of the month for his tireless efforts at Public and Media Relations on behalf of the Water Rescue Team.
December 2006
Steve Martin
Captain Steve Martin has been nominated for the DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year Award. Read the nomination letter on the News page.
August 2006
Greg Zajac
Greg has been our "Scuba Sargeant" for several years and has been one of our two dive instructors (along with our Captain, Steve Martin). Greg is a very natural teacher, and makes learning new skills a lot of fun. He has been very busy lately helping everyone bring their skill levels up. In addition, he recently helped one of our other members who took ill during a training session, and provided exceptional care. Finally, he sometimes lets us play with his son, Sam, when he accompanies Greg to training sessions!
July 2006
Kevin Jones
In addition to being a member of the dive team...and taking care of the team's Scuba equipment, Kevin and his wife mounted a fundraising effort to secure funds to convert our johnboat from outboard to jet power. This will enhance our maneurability in currents when divers or swimmers are in the water. We put the new jet drive to use for a search on the James River immediately after getting the boat back, and it worked well. Thanks Kevin and Ginger!
June 2006
Ernie Vitolo
In addition to being a member of the swiftwater and dive teams...and being the Boat Sergeant, Ernie has organized new fund raising opportunities and even cooked dinner for the team at our June meeting. Great effort, Ernie!
February 2006
Tommy Rigsby
Long time Water Rescue Team member Tommy Rigsby is the inaugural Water Rescue Team Member of the Month for February, 2006. Tommy is a PADI Master Diver, and is one of the mainstays of the dive team. He also serves as the Team’s Motor Lieutenant, and is responsible for maintaining our vehicles in ready-to-go condition. However, what makes Tommy the Member of the Month this month is that he recently spent a week of his vacation time fabricating a gear drying rack for the Water Rescue Team. Nine sets of hoods, gloves and dive booties can be set on the rack to drain and dry simultaneously. The rack is mounted on wheels, so that it can be moved outside to hose the gear off, then moved back inside so that the gear is secure while drying. Thanks Tommy!
